Telecom operators to review the call drop situation
In a meeting with telecom operators to review the call drop situation, DoT has directed operators to complete the installation of additional towers, small cells and towers on wheels by March 2018 as per their commitments made during 2017-18. DoT also directed operators to fast-track tower installations in Delhi, Mumbai, and areas of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh that are worst affected by call drops. According to DoT, Bharti Airtel has already invested Rs 160 billion to expand infrastructure and will be spending another Rs 240 billion, while Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited (RJIL) has committed to invest Rs 500 billion for installing 100,000 towers in 2018-19.
